Lo Fi Dance Theory supports the development, creation, and presentation of works that find their inspiration or form in dance. Comprised of a contemporary dance company, an international class series, and a research platform that unites dance artists and renowned multidisciplinary collaborators with the public, Lo Fi Dance Theory creates a community of exchange that fosters dance-centered collaborations in Canada and internationally. Our projects are much the same as our classes; pushing the boundariesbetween the arts and humanities–and, between social phenomena and kineticpossibility
LFDT’s company work intersect elements of folk and street dance structures that are manipulated and abstracted through a contemporary lens by the artists they collaborate with. Marked by a mixture of athletic rigour and experimentation, their bold and visceral works are known for their percussive energy, musical dexterity, punk spirit, and intricate movement patterns. Existing between opposites: order versus chaos; logic versus intuition; discipline versus anarchy; control versus release; and survival versus destruction, it is in the spaces between these contrasts where the company weaves togetherdance, theatre, music, and film to create works that shape-shift across time and genre, allowing the performers to try on aspects of their personas as possibilities for self-realization and freedom.

LFDTLAB

LFDTLAB is a platform for interdisciplinary arts research and education that results in the production of collaborative works informed by artists, scientists, educators, activists, and thepublic. These meeting and exchanges lead to the creation of projects that push the boundaries between the arts and humanities–and, between social phenomena and kinetic possibility.
