Porcelain explores notions of heredity and lineage through movement, song, and dialogue. Addressing responsibility, performance, and expectation, the performer self-fragments and transforms – shape-shifting and trying on aspects of different personas as possibilities for self-realization while unearthing the residual histories that impel the body to move.
Pushing the body to its limits in a visceral, athletic journey—explosive, mechanical movements twist and contort into new forms. Porcelain is a raw look at the body as a living history, carrying its seams, both physical and mental. The voice—rough, layered in song and speech—creates a space where dance and sound collide. Drawing from everything—from Aristotle and epigenetics to online chat-rooms, and pop culture—text, storytelling, and lyrics weave together, creating an unfiltered thread that narrates the work.
